Troop Adult Leaders 2015-2016
Scoutmaster: Charles Cochran
Charles and his family moved in to the Park Cities in 2009. He has two sons in the troop that are eagle scouts and has served as scoutmaster of Troop 70 since 2012. Charles has completed the Wood Badge training course and has served as a Wood Badge staffer as well. He served as an assistant scoutmaster at the 2010 National Jamboree at Fort A P Hill in Virginia and served as Scoutmaster for the 2013 National Jamboree at the Bechtel Summit in West Virginia. He has also lead multiple high adventure treks to Philmont, Northern Tier and Sea Base. He serves scouting in other capacities as well included multiple roles within the West Park district, the Southern Region and as a board member of Circle 10 Council.
Committee Chair and Assistant Scoutmaster: Bronson Stocker
Bronson is the Chair of the Troop 70 Committee which supports the Scoutmaster and the Scouting program. He is the father of two Scouts in the Troop. He grew up in Fort Worth where is earned his Eagle. He has participated in summer camp; lead the Troop’s sales greenery efforts; and is a counselor for several merit badges.
Asst SM: Tim Clow
Tim is an attorney practicing in North Dallas and has a son in the troop. He has embraced the Scouting program and has become a fully trained leader having completed his Wood Badge training recently. He was awarded his beads on November 22nd at a troop meeting.
Asst SM: John DeGroote
John is Troop 70's Assistant Scoutmaster for Programming and has served as a leader for Troop 70 at Camp Constantin for the past two years. He is an Eagle and the father of a Troop 70 Scout and a Webelos Scout in Cub Scout Pack 55, where John has served as Cubmaster since 2013. John is Wood Badge trained and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. As a scout, John participated in the 1981 National Scout Jamboree and in treks at Philmont and on the Appalachian Trail. While a scout, John served his Troop as Senior Patrol Leader, which he still counts as the best leadership training he ever received. Outside Scouting, John serves as a mediator, arbitrator and court-appointed trustee in complex business disputes.
Asst SM: David Eisenlohr
David is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in May 1971 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1972. He has served as an assistant since 1996 and attended the 1997 National Jamboree. David has served as Cubmaster and has completed the basic training courses. He completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1997. David is married to Shelley and is the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts.
Asst SM: Carson Holmes
Carson is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout (2004) who has come back to be an active leader in the troop. Carson has completed the class room portion of Wood Badge training and is working on the practical requirements. Carson has attended 2 national jamborees, one as a Scout and one as a leader, and 2 world jamborees. He is an accomplished guitar player and Aubrey Pollard award winner (2005).
Asst SM: Marshall Kath
Marshall served as a Den Leader for Pack 76 (HPISD – Armstrong Elementary) for four years where his youngest son, Henry, earned his Arrow of Light in May 2015. Henry and Marshall joined Troop 70 in August 2015. Marshall earned his Arrow of Light from Pack 721 and his Eagle rank and Order of the Arrow designation from Troop 721. At the same time, Marshall also completed his JLTC coursework and trekked to Philmont. Both Pack 721 and Troop 721 were members of the St. Louis Area Council. In addition, Marshall earned the St. Louis Area Council’s Veteran Camper award (for 50 nights of camping) four times as well as the Council’s 100, 200, 300 and 400-mile awards for hiking. Remembering fondly his former Scoutmasters (Mr. John Rakerd and Mr. Roy Pfeiffer), Marshall now gratefully serves Troop 70 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
Asst SM: Hudson Lockett
Hudson is a Troop 70 Eagle, earning the award in 1970 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1971. He has served as an assistant since 1998 and attended the 1977, 1981 and 2001 National Jamborees as a Troop Leader. He also served as a Troop Leader for the 2003 and 2007 World Jamborees. He completed his Wood Badge training in 2004. He led a Scout exchange group to Ireland in 2004 and hosted the return groups in 2005 and 2006. He has received the Silver Beaver Award and the Henry Crown Leadership Award. Married to Kathy, they are the proud parents of a Troop 70 Eagle Scout.
Asst SM: Tad McIntosh
Tad is an Eagle Scout and the proud father of one troop 70 Scout and 2 Eagle Scouts. Tad has been a scout leader in Dallas at the Cub Scout and Boy Scout level since 2003. Tad is married and has 3 sons . Tad has been to Philmont and helped with troop 70 Merit Badges and Summer Camp.
Asst SM: Bill Minick
Bill was a Boy Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. Bill has been to Philmont twice, will be an adult leader at Sea Base in 2016, and has two sons who are Eagle Scouts. He has served in leadership positions in Circle Ten Council Troops 68 and 70 for 10 years, as well as Circle Ten Council's Friends of Scouting Campaign, and been a consistent financial supporter.
Asst SM: Walker Mullinix
Walker has been involved in the BSA program for most of his childhood. He started in Cub Scout Pack 70, and then graduated to BSA Troop 70 where he would earn his Eagle Scout Award in 2009. Additionally, he is a veteran camper at Camp Constantin and has attended three Jamborees over his scouting career. Walker graduated from Baylor University in 2015 and is ecstatic to be home and become part of Troop 70 again as an assistant scoutmaster.
Asst SM: Gregg Murray
Gregg has served as an assistant since 2011. He lead summer camp at Camp Constantin 2013-2015 and he was in charge of our Greenery fundraising for two years. Gregg attended Wood Badge training at Philmont in 2012 and received his beads the following year. He completed a 2013 Philmont Trek with his oldest son and canoed over 100 miles in Northern Tier with both of his sons in 2014. Gregg is married to Christine and is the proud father of two Troop 70 Scouts and a daughter.
Asst SM: Bob Pospick
Bob is a Troop 70 Eagle Scout having earned the award in May 1971 and the Aubrey Pollard Award in 1973. He has served as an assistant since 1981 and attended the 1981, 1985, 1989, 1997, 2005 National Jamborees and the 2010 jamboree as a staff member. Bob completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1986. He has also staffed a WB course. He also led a group of Scouts to the Irish National Jamboree in 2008. Bob is married and the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts and has received the Silver Beaver Award.
Asst SM: John Shipes
John has been active in the troop for several years. He first became an assistant scoutmaster in 1997 when his older son was a Scout in the troop. John's service has included designing fund raising pieces and as the "official" Eagle candidate photographer. John is a world class photographer as his profession so that part came real easy for him and a great benefit to the troop. He recently served as Scoutmaster 2009-2012. John is Wood Badge trained and has served on staff.
Asst SM: Christian Straffon
Founder and former Cubmaster of Pack 1716 where he now volunteers as a Webelos Den Leader. He recently joined Troop 70 as an Assist SM and will be in charge of the Trail of First Class for the Fall of 2016. Attended Wood Badge CXII in 2015 and was beaded a year later, he is a member of the Order of the Arrow, International Committee of Scouting, Catholic Committee of Scouting, and serves as a Unit Commissioner for several Units in the West Park District. Married to Lisa and proud father of his 2 sons Christian and Nicolas (future Eagle Scouts from Troop 70).
Asst SM: Jim Whorton
Jim is a father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts. He currently is also servings as a district assistant commissioner. He has served as an assistant for 25 years and attended the 1989, 1993 and 1997 National Jamborees as a unit leader. He also served on staff for the 2001, 2005, and 2010 jamborees. He has completed the basic training courses. He has also completed his Wood Badge training having received his beads in 1995. Jim is the father of two Troop 70 Eagle Scouts.
It is simple to become a trained leader. Only one hour per week. Just contact the Scoutmaster and the rest is easy.
