UP Elementary Appreciation
Last Thursday, September 16th, Troop 70 “showed some love and appreciation” to the faculty and staff of University Park Elementary School—our home base for over 90 years!
Troop 70’s Committee Chair, Scott Sims and Assistant Scoutmaster, Brad Duhe delivered sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks from East Hampton sandwich shop, in appreciation of the school’s continued support of Scouting over the years. The troop leaders enjoyed meeting with the teachers and Ms. Candace Judd, Principal of the school. Thanking Principal Judd for her support and accommodations, Messers Sims and Duhe also explored potential opportunities to partner with the school on beneficial service projects.
Founded in 1930 by a Group of Citizens of University Park, the school and the troop have enjoyed a nine-decade long relationship. While a number of Boy Scout troops scall the Park Cities home, Troop 70 in the only one still affiliated with a Highland Park ISD public school and is the oldest continually chartered troop in the Park Cities. The school provides Troop 70 not only with a place to meet and hold events, but also provides us with crucial storage space for the troop’s gear and memorabilia, in its underground garage.
